On Court Etiquette

  1. Respect Your Opponent:

    • Always start and end matches with a handshake or a friendly gesture, like a nod or a smile.

    • Acknowledge good shots from your opponent, regardless of the score.

    • Avoid any form of unsportsmanlike behavior such as shouting or slamming your racket.

  2. Keep the Game Moving:

    • Be ready to serve and receive without unnecessary delays. This keeps the game fluid and respects everyone’s time.

    • Retrieve the shuttlecock promptly after each point, and either hand it or gently hit it back to your opponent.

  3. Line Calls:

    • Make honest and clear line calls. If you’re unsure, give the benefit of the doubt to your opponent.

    • Respect your opponent’s calls and avoid arguing. If there's a disagreement, calmly discuss it or replay the point.

  4. Safety First:

    • Avoid swinging your racket carelessly, especially when playing doubles. Communicate with your partner to avoid collisions.

    • If a shuttlecock strays into another court, wait until the rally is over before retrieving it. Politely ask for it back if necessary.

  5. Respect the Rules:

    • Familiarize yourself with the basic rules of badminton and abide by them. This includes proper service, scoring, and the use of timeouts.
